Fulminant myocarditis: critical care, Impella, LVAD, ECMO and transplant

Course Description

A joint session between the Chinese American Heart Association ( and the Great Wall International Cardiology Congress (GW-ICC) will feature up-to-date presentations on the evaluation and management of fulminant myocarditis, with an emphasis on advanced treatment. The program format includes interactive case-based discussions with an update from the most recent guidelines, medical and surgical perspectives to ensure a lively and relevant educational opportunity for all participants. New diagnostic tools, drugs, and devices will be reviewed along with their role in specific clinical situations. Cutting-edge research and advanced treatment in fulminant myocarditis and heart failure: Impella, Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs), Extracoporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and heart transplant will be reviewed. This session will be moderated and chaired by leaders in China and Chinese American Heart Association.

Course Learning Objectives — Upon conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:

?  Describe the epidemiology, pathophysiology and clinical features of fulminant myocarditis;

?  Implement strategies for patients with fulminant myocarditis and advanced heart failure;

?  Analyze advanced treatments for fulminant myocarditis and heart failure including Impella, LVADs, ECMO and heart transplant;

?  Characterize the timing and expected outcome for heart transplant and surgical interventions in fulminant myocarditis patients;

?  Identify gaps in knowledge about fulminant myocarditis and relevant cutting-edge research.

Intended Audience:

The fulminant myocarditis session is appropriate for cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, general internists, physician assistants, cardiovascular nurse practitioners and perfusionists learning the practice guidelines and management strategies for fulminant myocarditis and advanced heart failure.
